Preach the Word!
2 Timothy 4: 2-4 “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."
Paul is instructing Timothy to stay loyal to preaching sound doctrine even in the midst of "perilous times" that will come. He was warning Timothy that some people will abandon the truth to go after false teaching but to stay steady and preach the Word because it is through the Word He equips His people for all good works. ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.")
The Word of God is described as a sharp sword in Hebrews and is part of our armor in Ephesians 6. Heb. 4:12 says "For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
God gave us His Word to speak out and when we do, we are sending out His power that He ministers through. Isaiah 55:11 says that God's Word will not return to Him void, but it will accomplish what it was sent out to do.
Now more than ever we need to study scripture to anchor us in sound doctrine and to preach the Word! 2 Tim 2:15 says to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Now is not the time to lay our sword down, but rather pick it up and use it and God will take it from there.
